When Things Become Wonderful, Or, Saturday Morning at 9:15am

And some mornings you wake up to find that a friend has pitched in. Today, Mater of Materfamilias Writes has a Saturday morning post up. A lovely piece of writing about our day in the city, with that customary Mater tone humming throughout. I suppose it’s the sound of grace. I will refrain from the impulse to sputter,”Oh no, you are too nice, oh I am not….,” remembering that my mother always says, “A simple thank you will suffice.”

So you will find, here, root vegetables, carnitas, the Golden Gate bridge from a secret vantage point, and Mater and me in front of said bridge, smiling. Thank you.

And I, given now an extra block of time this morning, will finally put all boxes of Christmas decorations into the garage. I will start filing the stacks of papers that hunker in my office like junkyard dogs, growling every time I come near. Then, come midday, I’m off to wedding dress shopping for my future sister-in-law. Really, what else could one want from a Saturday?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I really do.

  1. Mater wrote a lovely post with details that have created such a rich image…
I feel that I have a better idea of what a Sturdy Gal is all about.

Your Saturday sounds very full…and the wedding dress shopping sounds like way too much fun!

  2. Congrats on the future sister-in-law. Apparently my wedding dress is all fixed up and my Mom got to see it. To say I am jealous is an understatement!

  3. Did you take photos during our day out with your future sister-in-law? Maybe we will see a snapshot?
The snapshot of mater and you in front ot the bridge is very cheering.

  4. I just discovered your site and I am excited to read excellent writing!! I will highlight you on my page today and add you to my blog list! Please stop by my site…I missed out posting Saturday because I was putting Christmas away in the garage!! Really. I will update later today. 5. I have given you a Stylish Blogger award, as someone gave me one, please see my blog for details! XX

  6. It sounds like a lovely day, especially spending time shopping with the future sister-in-law. I’m off to read Mater’s post.

  7. Dear Ms Lisa, I love it that your piles of paper growl at you like junkyard dogs. Mine are more passive – they simply look at me accusingly. However, they will have to wait until I am back in Chile to action. I just had the most delightful day with the wife of my brother-in-law. I love my out-out-laws. They are truly the most interesting, inspiring and lovely women. I am glad that you love spending time with yours too. I hope that you and she spent a lovely afternoon finding that perfect dress. I loved and was very envious of Materfamilias’ description of your time together. If ever you are in Santiago, it would be my pleasure to take to my favourite places.

  10. Duchesse – :)

Shari – I am so impressed. This year I took absolutely forever…

Linda – My sister-in-law to be is a wonderful person, and beautiful besides. If I ever come to Chile, I would absolutely love to visit you. In fact, one of my sisters has in-laws there:).

  11. I saw it last night and you’re right..it wasn’t the best Disney/Pixar film ever. It did get slow in the middle…but in all hlnostey I spent most of the moving staring at the “scenery” – I have to admit that I was impressed with the look of the movie more than anything. I think the storyline was probably a bit much for the little ones – I doubt my 3 year old nephew had any idea what the “reason” for the race really was … he just cared about Lightning McQueen and all the new cars. (As each new “character” appeared in the movie he would shout “I need that TOY!”) So…all in all, yeah I give it a C+/B-)
