Bandanas Of The Heart And Hearth

As the USA moves into spring we applaud the sun and light (even as we shiver in the evening or wake up to a blanket of March snow.)

Is sky blue and cozy the perfect spring pairing?

I recently bought this small “lace” cashmere scarf.

Perfect for spring days when the wind is colder than the sky would suggest. Worn under my Barbour, or J. Crew field jacket, a Northern California layering strategy par excellence.  Unfortunately Bompard sold out, but similar options are legion. Winter will come again.

I might also replace the throw blanket I bought this winter. As the weather lightens, tobacco-colored wool feels heavy.

I’m thinking yet more sky. Blue from periwinkle to cornflower to aqua to someone’s eyes.

And maybe new cushions! Spring warmth all around.

Somehow this brings to mind the bandanas of my teenage years, how jaunty but shy I felt the first time I tied one around my neck.

  1. This immediately brought to mind the “lacy” scarves I bought from Laura Ashley a couple of decades or so ago. Just lovely!

  2. I am loving the resurgence of the bandana. It also takes me back to my teenage years and also reminds of Mary Tyler Moore back in the 70’s, which is especially bittersweet with her recent passing. I actually just bought another bandana at JCrew today with a fun berry print.

  3. In which the Privilege Comment Protest Rally [see Saturday’s comment forum] proves that pushback against authority WORKS!

    1. @The Hunting House, Hehe;). I confess, I had this post already written, but I do want to keep hearing the wishes and concerns of Privilege readers and doing what I can in response. xox.

  4. YES to Spring. Yes to blues. Yes to cheery household items and yes to lighthearted Privilege posts!

  5. Skyepeale strikes again with sky blue! And Laura Ashley lace! OMG, let’s hear it for all the fun of the past and all those memories – and bring the best of that era into the present …

“I’ll [lose?] the world and melt with you…la la la la…There’s nothing you and I can’t do…la la la la lah…”

Oh golly goshes – gag me with a spoon before I make even more of a fool of moi-meme! (but I bet you all sang along, just the same)

    1. @Victoire, Totally sang along:). Your comment makes me think, what was the best of that era to be brought along? I am not sure I had enough social consciousness to even know. Was so focused on my own struggles:(.

  6. love the soft blue lace and the idea of lightening up as the light brightens. The colors you’ve selected are so pretty. But then spring is the season of pretty isn’t it?

  7. Loveth this one…Funny story..After reading about the interest in bandanas doing NYFW, I added a jaunty black and white bandana to my cross-body and preceded to feel just so with it for about nine minutes…I decided to google the bandanas and found that gangs in LA are using these for identity?….
Since I am into living on the wild side…ha…I continue to wear my bandana and let the chips fall where they may…You have added interest and validity to the bandana…Shall continue to enjoy….Dianne

  8. I purchased a couple of those EB lace cashmere scarves a few years ago and LOVE them. That periwinkle color is so gorgeous, and I’ll bet it looks great on you.

  9. I have a couple of these – one small and one shawl sized – made by my incredibly talented (and focused) sister. I can attest that they add just the right about warmth and a bit of gentle fanciness to almost any outfit. They are treasured pieces.
