So this is just a little outfit I wore up to San Francisco yesterday. Nothing particularly special.
But it had some virtues.
First, the colors. Navy and cadet blue, layered in with cognac shoes, a black, white and taupe scarf, gold dangling earrings Three neutrals, plus a metal, to my mind, gets interesting. Especially if one of them is your best-ever color, as cadet blue is for me. It might be rust, or neon yellow, or lavender for you.
Second, the silhouette/geometry. High-waisted pants cuffed at the ankle, platform sandals, a semi-cropped jacket, a high-wrapped scarf. Oh, and I usually fold back the cuffs of the jacket but when I drive I unroll them for sun protection. Anyway, made a grab-and-go outfit, even one that’s comfortable for my still healing Achilles tendon, look intentional. You can see the high waist, right? And also the dust on the mirror? Hadn’t been up to SF in a while. Oops;).
Finally, everything except my necklace and those Mephistos was reasonably priced. The trousers and ribbed tank were a recent purchase from COS, the jacket from UNIQLO several years ago, the earrings from Blue Nile, back when.
I imagine you all have had similar experiences, one in which you find yourself satisfied with something simple solely because it suits you. Or, maybe, also because it’s an indicator you’ve learned from practice.

First, I’m struck by how great your hair looks – the color and sleeked back – very chic. Second, yes, that feeling of of getting it right – the balance between looking current/ smart and feeling comfortable and confident. Well done! Hope the Achilles’ tendon is getting better.

I pootled down to our market town yesterday to do my shopping using a large straw bag I bought about 15 years ago..finally, it came into its own. I love it hugely but it has always seemed to me that I have short-changed it. Not yesterday – filled it with fruit and veg and a denim jacket in case the weather changed. With my navy trousers and blue and white striped shirt I felt quite point-devize. Finally.
@Annie, Ah yes, this is the exact kind of moment! When you’ve done the preparing, for what you didn’t quite know, and then one day the answer reveals itself. I love the sound of your outfit, and that term, point-devize, which I had never heard.
Unintentionally intentional or intentionally unintentional. . . When the research and the acquisition and the experiential learning have been done, wardrobe-wise, and serendipity lands regularly on the perfect outfit! Such that no one cares much about dust on the mirror ;-) xo

@KSL, Thank you:). Yes they are as comfortable as they are purported to be. On days when my Achilles acts up they are more comfortable than my Eccos – the previous benchmark. And I am going to order the Clegg – just waiting for my birthday budget to roll around;).
My computer isn’t showing any blue in your outfit ! So I was wondering if “cadet blue” is what we (UK) would call ” airforce blue ” ?
@Rukshana Afia, It’s a very grayed blue, in between navy and french blue, I’d say. Like petrol blue but no green in it.
Layering color looks chic and classic at the same time. Also has the side benefit of giving you a lovely tall glass of water look. Very nice outfit. The contrasting shoe color adds a nice pop too.
@Susan, Thank you. And you’re right, I should have said, the monochrome combined with platform sandals did make me feel quite taller and leggier than usual.
Lisa your hair is great and the outfit quietly sophisticated. You look like someone who is comfortable in their own skin. When I dress that’s what I strive for.

@Bunny Sukyana, A little off-topic; but, I feel, at least for now, that I should or shall begin drinking even earlier than before. Let’s face it girls, drinking soothes. And, as a women and as a once upon a time, a girl, a drink allowed me to be obnoxious and flirty and made me the center of attention, mostly unwanted, by men from all walks of life. I especially loved the short latin variety for their large appendages and their window cleaning abilities. Dashing to meet my doorman for an early evening assignation. Wish me luck! XXX xxx

Fabulous. Intentional or unintentionally great, doesn’t matter. I think it comes from knowing oneself and where one is in the moment. It is the learning process that is intentional. After that it is just simple satisfaction. When the right pieces all come together everything works. It is fabulous when we reach that place where we can reach in the closet and serendipitously grab the things that are perfect for us.
@Mardel, Yes! Yes! The learning process is intentional, and prolonged, but the solutions arrive like gifts.

But is it really cold enough in SF in July to warrant a jacket and scarf? Or are those just for starting out the day, and removed as the fog clears and the sun shines through?
I was in Manhattan on Saturday and it was so hot and muggy one could barely breathe. But of course there was ample AC in the theatre (the last weekend of a wonderful production of My Fair Lady) – so ample that I threw on my lightweight pashmina after the intermission (layered dressing goes both ways!).
Stay cool – in both meanings of the word…
Love the ensemble Lisa…and the reference to a “grab and go” outfit. I read a suggestion at Remodelista to hang the whole “grab and go” outfit together to save time and one’s memory. Love that idea! Jeanne xx
