  6. I rarely comment but I always look forward to reading your blog. I have been inspired, challenged, moved to tears, laughter and had ‘aha’ moments through your writing and your wonderful reader’s responses.

Even though I don’t know you, as I read your post my heart lifted and I feel so happy for you as I would for a friend.

    Blessings on you both.

And on another note, I am also looking forward to the vicarious excitement of finding out WHAT WILL YOU WEAR and all the attendant details.

    1. Goosebumps and poopy depends, you mean. Don’t you, Candace? *giggles*

Y’all know I’m the patron saint of giggles and mirth?!

  8. Congratulations , I wish I could come up with some wise and eloquent advice, but, I wish you lots of joy together in this new path that starts.

  9. What a lovely post for the first weekend of summer! My very best wishes to you both.

  10. How lovely – and thanks for sharing and bringing a smile this morning! Congratulations to S.O., and all happiness to you (this is how I was taught to offer my good wishes on a marriage or engagement; I wonder if you were taught the same).

  11. Wonderful news!! Congratulations.

Like Hostess, I’m looking forward to hearing about your planning and details, that is if you don’t mind sharing them.

  12. And I too was told that you only congratulate the groom, but that seems so old school to me. Like the bride is just a possession to be handed from her father to the groom! Mind you he is pretty lucky to get you ;)

  13. Mazel tov, Lisa!

(Or in keeping with proper WASP etiquette: Best wishes to the bride, congratulations to the groom!) :-)

  14. Hello Lisa – I have been reading your blog for quite a while but never commented before. Congratulations!!! So happy for you.

(I am a faithful reader of your blog, but I think this is the first time I’ve ever commented!)

I hope you will post some details of your wedding day ensemble (dress, jewelry, shoes), and perhaps a wedding pic or two!

  18. Congratulations to him and my best wishes to you! I could not be happier for you! Your pinterest board on Imaginary weddings has not been overlooked by me.

  19. Now THAT is one smart, cool guy. What a great choice he’s made. Congratulations to both of you !!

  20. Such happy news! Commitment and contentment all wrapped up into a glorious (big or small) ceremony. Like everyone else here, excited to hear about the hunt for wedding splendor.

  21. Dear Lisa,

I had to delurk (I am a long time reader but have never commented) to congratulate you on your wonderful news! I wish you both many years of happiness and good health.

  25. How WONDERFUL! I wish you every possible happiness, Lisa!

As a side note, I also can’t wait to find out what you wear for your wedding, should you choose to share that :)

I am so happy for your happiness!

  26. Today is our wedding anniversary and it was lovely to hear your news! Congratulations!

  27. Felicitations! I enjoy your blog and your writing and this seems like a good occasion to say so.

    1. Yes, what Nadya said. I feel as though it is happening to a friend! My good wishes to you both.

  28. Congratulations! It took Best Beloved two years to decide he wanted to marry me, then another seven waiting for me to be ready for the idea

    1. Me too, a time frame just exactly like that! We were getting ready to go to our atty to file wills and a few other things, and at the last minute just said, why don’t we just put another document in the stack for him to sign. It was getting the license at the courthouse that really set the tone of hilarity though, the poor teenage clerk behind the counter must not see many 60 year old couples apply for marriage licenses, you could read her surprise! Unlike Lisa, we told everyone after the fact.

Happiness to you and SO, Lisa!

  29. Oh! That is wonderful news! I’m so happy for you and can’t wait to hear more about it. Love is grand, and love at this age is the grandest.

  30. Congratulations!
I am always happy to read such good news especially at our age when it usually is a second marriage but surely incorporates all the experience and life challenges we have gone through already.

All the best and I am very excited to learn more about your plans and preparations.

  31. Congratulations! As I am also betrothed I can’t wait to see what you are planning so I can take a page out of your book! Best wishes to you both.

  32. I don’t know if I have ever commented, although I read your blog on a regular basis.
Yet, I laughed aloud in surprise and excitement when I read your news.
Congratulations! And, best wishes for a wonderful wedding day and life together.

  33. In the immortal words of Mr. Spock, may you both “live long and prosper.” Big smiles all ’round.

  34. Delighted for you! I also remarried in my early fifties (5 years ago) and these have been the best years of my life. Wishing you the same bliss!

  35. Lisa, I couldn’t be happier for you. It matters not to me what you wear, except that you be ecstatically happy with it.

My first marriage, at 20, lasted seven years and after it ended I swore I’d never marry again. My life and attitude changed drastically when I got clean and sober four years later, and four years after that I did remarry … on April Fool’s Day 1985.

It was the perfect date for us, as my husband had made a bet in high school that he’d never marry at all. We’ve bumbled along for 28 years now, amazed at how fun life together is. And that’s my wish for you and your beloved – that whatever life brings your way, you find the fun, the strength, of facing it together.

  36. many congratulation – what good news – we now need just a few details……

  37. Congratulations, Lisa! I’m so thrilled for you and Significant Other. What happy news.

I’m also very excited to get a peek into your outfit plans via Pinterest (terribly superficial of me, but somehow I think you’ll forgive me).

  38. There is something especially poignant about the engagement of a couple who informed by the wisdom and experience of their pasts have the faith and trust in one another decide to enter into the commitment of a life together in marriage. With their eyes wide open to the many possibilities ahead, this takes a very deep and true love. This is truly thrilling! All the best to you both.

  39. A little late to the party here, but congratulations! I wish you both the world of happiness going forward.

  40. OH my goodness… what wonderful news. I am so very happy for you and S.O. – a million congratulations! Very exciting. S x

  50. Lisa,
Congratulations, I am so very happy for you. The Significant Other is a very lucky man!
Like you, I expect to be getting married sooner rather than later….but I haven’t even made a phone call about arranging things. If you have any wedding tips for us second time brides, bring em on.
Again, I wish you and your fiance the very best.

  51. This is exciting! I am behind on my reading of all blogs I follow and earlier today I was reading a post from about 2 weeks ago on APW and saw a comment where you wrote “my first wedding” and I got excited about the idea that maybe you were getting married to your beau. I am glad to have it confirmed and a big congratulations!!!
